Episode 15: A Wondrous Place

Colin O'Donoghue as Hook, Deniz Akdeniz as Aladdin, Karen David as Princess Jasmine & Joanna Garcia Swisher as Ariel Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 15 A Wondrous Place picture image

Colin O'Donoghue as Claw, Deniz Akdeniz equally Aladdin, Karen David as Princess Jasmine & Joanna Garcia Swisher every bit Ariel

At present this was a decent episode perhaps because it dealt with the Aladdin plot and Ariel was in it but still it was fun. This episode too finalized the Aladdin plot which is a chip sad since from now on it will be the Gideon show.

Speaking of Gideon At present he figures to ask Emma to aid and uses Savior Tear magic which makes no portals happen and so he has leverage. How does that work? Who knows? Fifty-fifty the Storybrooke scenes were squeamish. Drunkard Snow is a woot. Though dorsum when Robin left Regina Henry made her a intendance package but when Hook leaves Henry can't be bothered to comfort Emma or even take the trash out. Teens.

This episode felt more like what show was trying to be in its concept, re-imagined Disney characters hanging out, having adventures and maybe getting drunk. I actually enjoyed the show's rework of Jasmine and Aladdin though Jafar was dispatched unceremoniously. Could they have done more than with the Aladdin plot and less with Gideon and EQ and Robin and Jekyll and Hyde? Yeah! But it could a less is more scenario. All in All information technology was a highly enjoyable episode. Though what was up with that oracle. After she was killed in that location is nothing about only in the past section is absent. I also miss that seer in season 2.

Also Aesop's Table is a neat name for a bar.

Episode 16: Mother's Little Helper

Jaime Murray as The Black Fairy Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 16 Mother's Little Helper picture image

Jaime Murray as The Blackness Fairy

Funny, the basic rule is evidence don't tell but for some reason the tell of Gideon'southward story of when the Blackness Fairy tormented a child and let Gideon's cell door open up was more powerful in the tell than in the show. Could have been the acting, Gideon'due south actor was stronger than the child asking for help.

Anyway this episode does reply a large question, why does Gideon act and then dumb? Simple, his dear old Grandmama has his heart. Oddly enough Gideon did want the savior to save the children in the mines and wanted to simply human action her. The idea here is that The Balck Fairy needs the savior to die so a portal freeing her opens. Now that her plan is washed what else does she want to practise? I mean she the being that created the dark curse and presumably all darkness. She could be older than Merlin and the dark one(s). Wonder what she saw in Peter Pan? So again her plan to acceleration Emma was a Giant Spider and for some reason I simply can take that seriously.

Also this episode has Hook and Black Beard on a double crossing misadventure the brings them to Neverland. There should have been more of their antics, that would accept been fun merely there are only six episode left so tin can't be helped I guess. Moving on.

There also more with the author plot because people must take really missed Isaac (I don't think they did). You see Henry's author powers are taking over because of the final battle and Isaac wants to peace out which apparently now he can. Where did the barrier go? Must have missed that role. And he likewise wants Hamilton tickets because the show has no clue how much time has passed since flavour 1 and neither practise the viewers.

This episode was f boring. It made up for itself by the Black Fairy chewing the scenery, she's kind of delightful and as well Claw and Blackness Beard anti-pirate-pal-time. It did respond some questions that fabricated Gideon more tolerable but that Giant Spider fight, no words for that ane.

Episode 13: Ill-Boding Patterns

Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin, â€Å½Giles Matthey every bit Gideon & Keegan Connor Tracy as The Blueish Fairy

No, simply no on this episode. Let just start with Gideon's dumb plan of killing Emma to be the savior, highlander-fashion. It'south dumb, actually dumb, just enquire for help. Gideon manifestly has something to bear witness trying to be a hero and Rumple wants to help merely doesn't want to darken Gideon considering Bae was darken one time which retcons Bae/Neal's personality. And obviously as we learned in season 5 if you forget you inner darkness you don't have whatever temptations afterwards, e'er.

Also Beowulf for some reason. Beowulf is the antagonist of the past department though it simply seems more like proper noun drops than anything story related. The by section was wearisome and all information technology does is give weak backstory to why Rumple didn't desire to darken his son's soul. Also Beowulf before Hunchback. Grrrrrrr!

But information technology gets worse. EQ is no longer a snake because of some undoing magic spell that didn't work on the town barrier just did work on EQ.

And yet it still gets worse since Claw is all emo about telling Emma well-nigh killing her grandpa but every bit he is virtually to tell her, she hijacks the chat and kind of forces the proposal on him because she was in his sea-breast, found the ring and then took the ring with her. Who does that? I would be PISSED off I spent the last iii or and then yr aircraft these two to get this as the proposal. Though I started this show less than a year ago and it nevertheless irritates me that this is the proposal.

Hated this episode.

Episode: 14: Page 23

Lana Parrilla as Regina Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 14 Page 23 picture image

Lana Parrilla as Regina

That'due south a wrap on EQ and wish-Robin, they are living it upwards in the wish realm. Basically the episode has Regina redeeming EQ by giving her beloved and taking her darkness. This brings Regina total circumvolve, she has counterbalanced her darkness and the light and loves herself. The by section dealt with Regina discovering she hates herself more than she hates Snow White.

Speaking of Snow, tin can y'all believe this is the first time Hook and Snowfall have had a one on one conversation? Crazy!

Which brings us to Hook, oh Claw. Emma discovers Hook's secret because he wanted to erase the retentiveness of killing her grandfather, not sure how he used the dreamcatcher to get the memory or why he was watching it in the living room merely now the wedding is off for now. Emma gave the ring dorsum not for the murder but for the lying and the retentivity wipe attempt. So Hook decides to go with Nemo to figure shit out but later on learning from Snow that the EQ got a happy catastrophe he thinks he can too. But when Claw tells Nemo he isn't going with him, Gideon shows up and makes the submarine get out. Uh-Oh.

Merely really, how many times does Claw have to be redeemed? He went to hell and back and ONLY came back because he helped defeat Hades. What does he accept to practise? How many conversation almost villains non getting happy ending but tin exist redeemed does in that location need to exist?

This episode was still ok. It'south nice that the EQ and Robin's story are hopefully ended. Also information technology was nice to come across Tink merely there didn't demand to be an homage to Frozen. And Gideon even so sucks.

Episode 9: Changelings

Emilie de Ravin as Belle and Keegan Connor Tracy as The Blue Fairy Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 9 changlings picture image

Emilie de Ravin as Belle and Keegan Connor Tracy as The Blue Fairy

And then the Blackness Fairy is really Rumple's mother. This family tree gets more complicated all the fourth dimension especially when you think that Regina is both Henry'southward mother and step great-grandmother.

Basically it seems that Rumple has had a night origins this whole fourth dimension and is the reason he hates fairies. Not sure how to feel virtually this twist particularly with the ameliorate twist that Aladdin became a Genie! That'southward a good twist. I hate how little the show is doing with  the Aladdin plot unless it goes into Emma'due south death vison plot or Rumple and Belle. I'll admit  Rumple and Belle'due south dynamic this episode was interesting but they have been having variations of the same conversation since the offset  now they just accept a babe thrown into the vocabulary.

The scene with Belle giving her son to Bluish was emotionally charged only the episode was simply alright. Skillful in parts and dragged in others.

Episode ten: Wish Yous Were Here

Jennifer Morrison as Emma Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 10 Wish You Were Here picture image

Jennifer Morrison as Emma

Are you kidding me with this episode? Another alt-timeline? Actually prove? I have to inquire even though information technology'southward a wish, how does Emma and Neal get together to even accept Henry and why is he still called Henry? That proper noun was because of Regina! It might be a fake wish reality BUT STILL SHOW! And somehow in this world Rumple could go a bean with ease when in reality he got Regina to bandage the nighttime curse and so he could get to his son. On a context level this episode hurts. Plus Robin is dorsum now in the wish world.

In other plots, when Aladdin became the Genie, Jasmine didn't make her wish to render to Agrabah. For some reason they waited and EQ got the lamp prompting the whole wish earth. In other, other plots Belle and Rumple's son got taken by the Blackness Fairy and turns out to be the hooded figure who is destined to kill Emma, so that'southward how they worked Rumple and Belle's plot to have more importance.  And EQ is now a Snake and at 2 masters later, Jasmine has the lamp and made her wish. Still wish Aladdin and Jasmine weren't side-plot fodder.

Did not care for this episode, sure it'south another twist that Babe Gideon is one who kills Emma but the wish-world shenanigans literally hurt my caput with all the mental leaps it asks of the viewers.

Also this bear witness has a blueprint of having a character telling other characters to run across they at place in one hour. Is that ever enough time?

Episode 7: Heartless

Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White and Josh Dallas as David Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 7 Heartless picture image

Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White and Josh Dallas equally David

And nosotros are back to having a sleeping curse in play. This fourth dimension it'due south a shift based curse on the Charmings. If Snow is awake and so David is asleep and vice-versa. Information technology'south rather clever. Also bad the remainder of the episode hinged on being tedious aside from the puppy. What happened to Charming'south dog?

The past section rewrites Snow and David'southward first meeting so instead of meeting when Snow robbed him, now they actually have their starting time encounter when Snow got captured by a bounty hunter. Why? Why retcon this? Is information technology and then they take more True Love to their story because they literally drown in true love mythos.

So show of hands, who sick of Belle and Rumple'southward toxicity? I hate that they take up  and so much screen time. The bear witness murdered their relationship considering it needed Rumple to e'er be in the villain position but they can't make Belle a doormat so it'south sucks to sentinel them. Yous tin can't root for them.

Emma and Hook are getting wearisome since more than of their scenes are but pep talks. And that just leave the Mannerly who are also perfect simply now they are curse. So I guess that makes them compelling? Not actually.

Liked the twist on the curse and the puppy. As well the line about the Dying of the Calorie-free reference. Sure they were referring to the poem merely my mind went to the George R.R Martin book.

Episode 8: I'll exist your Mirror

Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen and Jared S Gilmore as Henry Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 8 Ill be your Mirror picture image

Lana Parrilla equally Evil Queen and Jared Southward. Gilmore equally Henry

Well don't the Charmings just adjust super well? No expletive is going to become in the mode of making pancakes. And hey and the expletive allows to really  care for their baby whom they haven't talked much about this flavor merely at to the lowest degree baby Neal is in that location, yet a baby and  yet Henry keeps on crumbling.

This episode has Regina and Emma getting trapped in the Mirror world with the Dragon. The Dragon seems like he has a compelling backstory which we will probably never see. EQ tries to pull a Darth Vader on Henry when she gives him a Sophie's selection which is kill the Dragon, whose heart she holds or allow the Dragon, who can turn into a dragon, kill Emma and Regina. Henry opts for that heroic tertiary option which is the smash the mirror which works and not just taking  the heart from EQ and telling the Dragon  to stop. They never do things similar that. Maybe heart stealing is that fourth option.  In anycase  since Regina has had a light and dark battle in her soul, is she Kylo Ren?

In other plots, Aladdin steals the portal wand so that Belle can go to the Enchanted Forest because Rumple is a mammoth  asshole who wants to utilize the Shears of Destiny on their son so the kid won't hate him or something? Rumple forces Belle to stay and at present he wants Zelena killed since she has leverage on him because he tin't hurt her. Just sick of  the Rumple plot. The show loves the player but they tin can't practice much with graphic symbol without constantly making him an ass-face.

Also Emma is going on and on nigh her decease once more. This season lacks focus

Also RIGHT before EQ throws Hooks I swear there some weird event in the water. Maybe it's a subliminal message?

subliminal message or weird effect in Once Upon a Time

subliminal message or weird upshot or compassion error?

Episode 5: Street Rat

Deniz Akdeniz as Aladdin & Karen David as Princess Jasmine Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 5, Street Rat picture image

Deniz Akdeniz as Aladdin & Karen David as Princess Jasmine

Sigh, this savior business has gotten out of paw. So being "The Savior" in the first season seemed like a cute nickname for Emma to bring back all the happy endings and her "light magic" was the result of being the production of true love which is what fuel her nickname as the Savior. Turns out "The Savior" is now a status with a tragic fate. All Saviors Must Die, All Saviors Must Serve. Yet, the savior status can exist cut with  special scissors.

Didn't dig the Storybrooke section with EQ and Zelena getting a spa day. Gotta wonder which story the spa workers are from.

The past department on the other hand, savior business bated, was pretty good. Jasmine and Aladdin are likable and the aesthetic of Agrabah was fun. Sure they mixed cultures and the leads accept English accents only whatever. Rather would have the story focus on them than moody Emma.   Basically the Aladdin is as well a savior and his story feed more into Emma'south story than his or Jasmine's plot.

Episode 6: Night Waters

Colin O'Donoghue as Hook & Faran Tahir as Nemo Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 6, Dark Waters picture image

Colin O'Donoghue as Claw & Faran Tahir as Nemo

A Human being IS NO ONE!?  OMG It'S A FACELESS Man! RUN Hook RUN !!!!!!!!!!! Or Nemo (no one) HA! How droll.

Basically this episode is another episode about how  revenge isn't all that great yadda yadda yadda.  You have heard it all before, agian and agian and and then agian.

There are some issues with this episode. First off, apparently the past department takes place during the Dark Curse Only BUT Merely didn't the dark expletive freeze the Enchanted Forest? Isn't that what Cora said to Hook right earlier it vicious in season ii in another past department? And notwithstanding here is Hook now having an adventure with Captain Nemo and his  brother Liam, his other brother. nether the bounding main.

Also when did Henry start hating Hook? His weirdness toward Hook was contrived. Plus if y'all had a drinking game going where you accept a potable anytime someone says "Promise" and "Family" you would have extreme liver cirrhosis  by now. Suppose if y'all added "Dearie" to the mix y'all'd be dead.

And finally and this isn't so much an result with this episode Just more on the flavour as a whole. What are the stakes anymore? The characters have been told that splitting a centre with one's true love cheats death so long as information technology'due south done apace before the soul tin leave the body and back in season 5 hell Emma and Claw passed the true love examination so what'due south the problem with Emma's fate?  Let fate play out and Boom eye share.

Otherwise the episode was weak, less revenge and Emma's visions and more than Jasmine and Aladdin. They are the saving grace of this flavour so far.

This episode did remind me of Song by Sarah Brightman called Captain Nemo.

Episode 3:  The Other Shoe

Jessy Schram as Cinderella & Tim Phillipps as Prince Thomas Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 3, The Other Shoe picture image

Jessy Schram as Cinderella & Tim Phillipps as Prince Thomas

I had forgotten that Rumple was as well the Fairy Godmother.  He just has so many roles in this bear witness. This episode revisits Cinderella a.k.a Ashley and her footstep-sister who was in love with a footman only got hauled off to land of untold stories with the wicked step-mother because she didn't desire her daughter marrying below her. Apparently working for royalty isn't good plenty for a woman who sold porcelain for some dresses and uses slave labor.  Or is Cinderella an indentured servant?

The other plot going on is Emma's issues with the  futurity and finally asking Hook to move into the business firm that he picked out for them to alive. Emma'due south proposal was sweet simply weird when she added the bit near getting striking by a jitney and space for leather jackets. Also there is a plot with Regina trying to out-think EQ, Snowfall White wanting to teach, David learning most his begetter's death and Rumple getting a mixtape to Belle.  These plots are all at the expensive of the other stories going on like the Dwarves saved Dopey from being a tree and Dopey got into a masters plan. In what and where? Fuck you, that's not important when nosotros got a mixtape and a 40+ year old hot cold case. I still wanna know how Mulan and Aurora saved Philip from the wraith dorsum in flavor 2. That could have been an ballsy adventure only instead we got Tamara and Owen, Peter Pan'southward anti-magic zealots.  Information technology's just like Why on that one.

The by section was practiced, nice to meet Cinderella's step-sis go more characterization than nothing. How  she met the foot-human could have been interesting but there is no time for a line like that when there are similar 5 plots per-episode  and a weird pilgrim lady coming to town,  the  show has its priorities people. Got to wonder what story that Pilgrim lady is from and why didn't she want her story played out?

It was a good enough epsiode, loved Emma's white embroidery shirt  particularly with the leather jacket and the stride-sister'due south gown. That gown was awesome.

Episode iv: Strange Instance

Hank Harris as Dr. Henry Jekyll & Sam Witwer as Mr. Hyde Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 4, Strange Case picture image

Hank Harris as Dr. Henry Jekyll & Sam Witwer as Mr. Hyde

Well that was super unceremonious way to end the Hyde and Jekyll storyline. So many questions left unanswered only to answer a question that fabricated Hyde's story play into Rumple and Belle's toxic relationship and to get the EQ to exist her own character. I did similar how their backstory played out but right when you showtime liking the plotline POOF it'due south gone because we have to make style for the Aladdin plot.

Speaking of Aladdin, the b-plot with Jasmine being a instructor's help to Snow was SUPER boring. What does Snowfall White teach? Don't care, I want to know what Dopey is getting his M.A in, I'm super curious nigh that. Mayhap information technology'south dendrology, the scientific study of copse? I mean he was a trea.  In my head canon that is what he's studying. I mean if the show's not going to reply it might as well make something up.

This season seems like a kitchen-sink of plotlines. It's similar they knew there wasn't going to be a continuous story for flavor vii so they had to jam dorsum season 6 just they had already started the Hyde/Jekyll/EQ plot. So while the backstory and ultimately Hyde and Jekyll were interesting in the heart/listen and social politeness vs not giving a fuck about society was interesting, null came from it.   I mean WHAT WAS HYDE's Plan? WHAT DID HE WANT?

Also Rumple got his hair cutting! That'southward an important plot signal OR the actor got sick of the wig.

Non a great episode. Minor points for concluding a story instead of having characters fizzle into the background, Lily and Maleficent.  The by section was actually good.

Also where are my Avonlea fans at because Jekyll reminds me a lot of Jasper Dale, sans the murder part.

Episode one: The Savior

Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan Once Upon a Time Season 6 Episode 1 The Savior Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan picture image

Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan

Wow, this episode has no past section, well except for that Aladdin is a has-been savior and Belle's dream world but no plot based section ready in the past. There was no time to have a past section when there is like 30 story plots going on. Regina beingness pissed at Zelena while mourning Robin, Zelena pissed at Regina for destroying her dark part also as non thanking her for destory the man she loved to save Regina, Hyde's secret evil plans, Belle's baby, the island of Misfit untold story characters, Emma'due south time to come, Aladdin is another relish, what drinks did the Evil Queen make and what does she want, Robin's soul, Archie trying to find more than patients, Granny trying to make ends-meet later Snow volunteers her identify every bit a soup kitchen, Pongo trying to take a walk in peace, Hyde trying to have enough money in his bottle business relationship, Hook's new haircut, and Henry trying to get in on all the activeness while Claw and Emma try to get some action. I'k sure I missed something but in that location is lots and lots of plot this episode. Hopefully they will all attain a nice conclusion since this sort of is the last flavor since NEXT flavor seems to exist a soft re-boot with most of the cast not returning.

Was this a practiced episode? It was alright not good merely okay. It did get the ball rolling in many, many directions.

Episode two: A Bitter Draught

Lana Parrilla as Regina Omce Upona A Time Season 6 episode 2 A Bitter Draught picture Image

Lana Parrilla as Regina

No thank you I like fruity beers. A bad Beer Joke! And now the review.

I do not get this state of untold story plotline. There is a magical realm where time stops and stories are halted and the people who alive there chose to live there so they didn't have live those stories and YET they all chose to follow Hyde, who is similar their leader for some reason not explained, to Storybrooke to play out the stories they didn't want played out? Enter characters like the Three Musketeers who are just extras, some Bellydancers, Steampunk people, a cowboy and Edmond Dantes a.thousand.a The Count of Monte Cristo.

And then they changed upwardly Edmond's story for drama then that instead of Mercedes (his fiancée) marrying Morcerf, Mortcerf kills her and Dantes doesn't know about Danglar and Villefort's involvement. And forget nearly Haydée, she wasn't mentioned or Albert. They also suggested that Monte Cristo was a place but it wasn't, information technology was a rocky spit of land hence the joke of the championship merely props to them getting that it's as well a sandwich. I'll admit it I might be harsher with adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo since Gankutsuou is a near flawless adaptation and one of my favorite anime, go sentry that merely accommodation is an art since so let'southward just expect this version of the Count for what information technology is. ((( also that they did Monte Cristo earlier Hunchback, am I bitter about that? Yes even if they jacked information technology upwards I would nonetheless honey to see what they practise with the story and characters.)))

Information technology's not a terrible re-piece of work of the Count since his deal his how revenge isn't as sweet as previously idea much similar Regina just Edmond's story is a means to an terminate since he died as a signal from EQ (Evil Queen) to Regina. It just seemed more of a waste since all his actions were because of EQ had his centre. And manifestly people can just say when someone has their center. Well then why didn't Hook say that to Emma in season 4 when Rumple had his heart? In that location are no real magic rules anymore. EQ used a magic damping spell and messed up Henry'south phone. What price did she pay for that?

Speaking of nitpicks, the show needs to exercise a better job styling the double's hair on Regina. Regina has this flair out layer that is missing on the double when Lana Parrilla is playing the EQ in the stand-off scene. Too how did Regina get to Edmond's Dantes/Dumas globe? Was information technology the Hat? Realm hoping isn't an consequence since season 3.

Also gotta love Disney lack of self-awareness when talking nigh how sequels are more "involved" than the original. It'due south funny given their terrible tape for Disney sequels too as recent remakes, which are more misguided.

This episode has like 3 balls in motion although one is dividing. You have the EQ'southward machinations which involves Regina, Zelena and David. There is the untold story characters which might merely be episodic stories used to move the main plots forward any that turns out to exist, and Emma's issue with being A savior and her death past cloaked figure in the futurity. Oddly Hyde was absent in this episode. Guess no time when the EQ tricks Edmond Dantes to teach her other-half lesson and how did Regina utilize Edmond to go her revenge in the past? Similar how did she know Villefort and Dangler involvement? Magic? Seems like the Count of Monte Cristo should take been smarter simply that's adaptation for y'all.

Meh episode merely it'southward still set-up for the flavour.

Episode 21: Last Rites

Sean Maguire as Robin & Lana Parrilla as Regina Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 21 Last Rites review picture image

Sean Maguire as Robin & Lana Parrilla equally Regina

Ok, so Hades' program this whole time and the existent reason he gave upwards on the time travel thing to switch places with his brother and focused on Zelena was considering Zeus broke the Olympian Crystal and Hades couldn't repair it with his heart stopped in add-on to non existence able to go out the underworld. As well it seems like Hades wants it all, Storybrooke, Olympus, no-calorie cookies and ability. Now the Olympian Crystal is the only thing that can kill or end a god. This the aforementioned plot device the show uses a lot towards the end of each arc, some magic thing that either saves everyone or doom everyone, like flavour 2 it was that fail-rubber trigger, or is season iv with that necklace. Or how a cut from Excalibur only murders you.

Trouble is Hades he tin, like everyone else, can snap a person'southward cervix with magic, so why non just do that? He did information technology with Arthur. Why really practise you need the problem of forging your only murder weapon, even if they practice-gooder don't know virtually it? Why bother?

Except Arthur and Hook establish the pages about Hades and the crystal and they put in the book and TA-Trip the light fantastic, pages in the Storybrooke version for Emma to see. But information technology is Zelena who kills Hades after he obliterates Robin's being and lies about this schemes. Hades did love Zelena though he just fell victim to beingness a villain and wanting to have information technology all. Ability, dear, family, power, a kingdom to rule, ability and more power. He didn't explicitly say it just he probably wanted to kill Zeus with the crystal. Anway Zeus restores Hook to life because he was a good boy. So Hook stayed officially dead for like one episode. Arthur is absurd with being in the underworld since he now knows Camelot wasn't the kingdom that he was prophesied to repair, it was UnderBrooke. Looks similar Cruella is going to have some opposition.

It does suck that Robin's existence has been wiped out, similar his soul is gone. It was a noble sacrifice for Regina. It might have been sadder if he wasn't being such a douche about his girl, how Zelena was unsafe and how Regina shouldn't trust Zelena.

This decision to the arc felt very underwhelming. Robin'south death is only going to crusade more drama for Regina because this show loves its drama. Girl tin't be happy because that's non dramatic.

All in all this was an arc of cameos and call backs.

Episode 22: Simply You

Jared S. Gilmore as Henry & Olivia Steele Falconer as Violet Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 22 Only You review picture image

Jared S. Gilmore as Henry & Olivia Steele Falconer every bit Violet

Call back in season 2 when Henry tried to destroy magic? Well he'south at again though with more than teenaged malaise. He thinks magic is the root cause of all the suffering in Storybrooke expect Storybrooke is made of magic so when Rumple steals a piece of that Olympian Crystal and tethers Storybrooke'due south magic to it later on Belle'southward father refuses to wake her, Henry using his author powers steals the crystal and goes to New York to destroy it and Violet goes with him. At a library they discover other Once Upon a Fourth dimension books similar one has Don Quixote and Paul Bunyan, not sure why they are in the aforementioned book. Violet also sees a "twin" of the Holy Grail which they conclude can destroy magic. Why is information technology in the Mid-town library? Rumple even so shows upward and takes the Crystal earlier Emma and Regina can go there.

Regina is once again get through the fine line of being good and suffering and post-obit her impulse and exist evil which means she would lose everything and everyone. This was an emotionally charged scene and the best of the episode.

Speaking of the residual of proficient and evil we have Jekyll and Hyde now. Considering of the impending Doom, there is an evacuation of Storybrooke. Earlier Zelena tin shut the portal information technology goes crazy and her, Snowfall, David and Hook are pulled to somewhere. With the wand broken they captured and are the prisoners of Mr.Hyde. Hyde is not a fan of the Dark ane. Jekyll repairs the wand just is defenseless and Hyde allows the program to continue every bit he wants everyone in the steampunk zepplin land to get to Storybrooke as well. Hyde also steals Belle in pandora's box from Rumple. Rumple actually picks to relieve the ability object over his dearest. Classic Rumple. Don't feel bad for him. Hyde does this for leverage.

Here's a thought, couldn't Henry, as the author, only write that everyone loses their magic? And then no more magic. Or is that not dramatic plenty? He just uses his author power to steal the magic only not remove it from people.

This episode is more than of the same just upcycled. We have seen Regina'southward struggling with her darker self and now there the Jekyll and Hyde plot. Henry wants to destroys magic again, people trapped in a weird land again. Rumple wants power for love merely choice ability again. This episode reverts to it's one-time patterns and just repackages information technology. Characters don't get arcs they abound a little scrap and then a setback happens and people accuse them of following dorsum to their one-time patterns, simply similar the prove. That perhaps how existent life goes but it's not interesting in a evidence nearly how gray fairy tale characters are and redemption arcs.

This episode is serviceable as the first function of the two part finale. On a plus side the violin music at the end was amazing. It had a Phantom of the Opera vibe. Do Phantom of the Opera Once Upon a Time. Or Hunchback. I don't really want to think those curiosity were a weird Hunchback reference, I'd rather be reading too much in their extra choices.

Episode 23: An Untold Story

The Land of Untold Stories Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 23 An Untold Story review picture image

The State of Untold Stories

This episode is the second part of the finale. Zelena, Snow, Hook and David find out the identity of the Practiced Gardener/Doctor and the Warden and they try and flee Mr.Hyde who has been separated from Jekyll. Turns out they are in the Country of Untold Stories which is full of Outcasts, show's own words, so high hopes for Hunchback. To be fair nevertheless another extra looks like Esmeralda.

Meanwhile, Henry successfully destroys the magic of Storybrooke with the Dark Grail only to find out that most of his Family is trapped in another realm. They meet the Dragon, who isn't expressionless and he tells them that magic is everywhere. They get a fountain and make wished which charges the crystal but it's not enough. Henry makes speech about magic and belief which is plenty to restore the crystal and open a portal which brings back Zelena, Snowfall, Hook and David along with Jekyll. Rumple slips through the portal to save Belle. The New Yorkers then think it was a human action. Regina then uses Jekyll'south serum to remove the Evil Queen and crushes her middle. However Evil Queen isn't dead, she on the war path for the next season.

Rumple and Hyde come to some deal and Rumple gives Hyde Storybrooke and Rumple gets intel on saving Belle. Hyde brings all the untold story people to Storybrooke for adjacent season shenanigans

Also Violet's dad was from the Twain's story, A Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Funny didn't he chastised Henry for non being a knight. Just they did say his name was Sir Morgan so might have been planned that fashion.

This episode has the flaws of the last episode just it have lot more prepare-up for next season with 3 plot threads, Regina versus Evil Queen in the flesh, no subtle internal struggle anymore, the show volition eats its cake dammit, The Untold Stories featuring Hyde and Jekyll, and Rumple saving Belle which more than than likely will get wrapped up chop-chop but information technology'due south nevertheless a plot thread.

Henry flip-flopping on magic was annoying and his speech communication was awkward.

There was a heavy-handed foreshadowing when Emma tells Hook she loves him without beingness in peril at that place is a wedding gown positioned in between them in the groundwork. What could happen next flavor???

So on to next season. Will there exist Hunchback? Feel like I would have heard if in that location was by now since the flavor has concluded. That actress might be it but she looks more like Esmeralda than the underworld waitress. Do you lot guys retrieve that is Esmeralda?

Episode 19: Sisters

Lana Parrilla as Regina & Rebecca Mader as Zelena Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 19 Sisters review picture image

Lana Parrilla as Regina & Rebecca Mader every bit Zelena

Regina wants to make it the mode of Hades and Zelena because Hades is a Villain and the God of Death and therefore cannot be redeemed. Evil Queen, Sure. Dread Pirate Hook Paw, you bet. Snow Queen, sort of. Rumple, jury is still out on that one. Just the God of Decease is beyond that even though Expiry is the ultimate equalizer.

Hades' programme is now to go to Storybrooke with Zelena and take a life simply exit the heros in UnderBrooke so they don't get in the way so he puts all their names on tombstones for skillful measure. Regina then enlists Cora to make  Zelena forget Hades. Zelena sees through this but in the finish Cora makes them remember an incident from their by a kids where the met and liked each other merely Cora made them forget. The sister reconcile and Cora moves on to Olympus. Regina tells Zelena that maybe she tin modify Hades but before she gets to him, Rumple and Pan kidnap her.

The B plot is virtually James and David. James' real motivations for hating David is that David stole his glory. That is so dumb. In the end James take the plunge into the River of Lost Souls. This side plot has however some other example of Emma being lied to and non picking upwards on it.

The hero are interim dumb about Hades and Zelena. Mayhap if they convinced them that they WON'T make it the way of their happiness, he might allow them go home. Hades only seems to care about Zelena right now. Possibly Hades is up to no good but if he is up to some nefarious scheme he hiding with well with all his wooing of Zelena.

The emotional crux of Regina and Zelena was good towards the end of the episode. The emotions landed well. Having the sisters come across as children was weird as it retconned them and led to a quick reconciliation, estimate they had to expedite things. The B plot was dumb, Cruella was the just good part. Hades proposal was cute, asking to make anarchy with Zelena. So sweetness. This episode was well-nigh a B.

Episode 20: Firebird

Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan & Colin O'Donoghue as Captain Hook Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 20 Firebird review picture image

Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan & Colin O'Donoghue as Captain Hook

At that place is a lot going on in this episode.

Hades goes to the Heros for help to save Zelena from Rumple and Pan. In exchange he offers to take their names off the graves. Hades compiles with Rumple and tears up the contract and frees Zelena. They kiss and presto, True Love's Kiss awakens Hades' Frozen heart. Apparently Hades knew it was truthful love. Hades triggers a portal to open but it will exist open for a express time but and Emma can't split her centre to give to Hook equally he's been expressionless as well  long. Hades tells them about Orpheus and Eurydice and a rumor that could bring hook back.  Hook and Emma descend into a low level of the Underworld to effort and get some ambrosia which volition bring Hook back but Hades cut information technology way long ago, thus tricking the heroes. Hook convinces Emma to permit him become and go back without him. It'south a very sad scene, really.

While that is going on. Henry tries to complete Operation Firebird which was to aid people of the Underworld move on using his author powers. Also bad he didn't think of this idea ages ago instead of whining. Cruella and the Blind-witch halt this by trapping them with a spell of Hades gave them in the library. Hades tricked them again. Meanwhile Rumple tricks Pan by saying he got a living heart but it was that river of lost souls AGAIN. Pan's plan wouldn't have worked anyhow. Tricked Again.

While all the heros are getting tricked Hades, Zelena and the baby leave. Just some backstory that I missed, Hades can merely leave the underworld when true dearest'south osculation makes his centre beat again. Zeus stopped it for reasons.  His heart "fluttered" when he was with Zelena, then he knows information technology's True Love with her. He did have programme to go back into time so he could be the i on Mt Olympus but dropped the programme because he wanted Zelena. If they have kids, they will have red hair and be very snappy dressers.

The past section deals with Emma getting caught past a bail bonds person and how she got her leather jacket or her armor. The final role of that plot was very emotional.

So truthful love is apparently piece of cake to notice and hard to proceed. The scene with Hook and Emma was very emotional and done well. Hades should have just done zero. The heroes would have left him lone just he ruined with this scheming. He should have done zip, unless he really does take some m master plan that has however to be hinted at. His plans so far have been get back in fourth dimension,  keep souls and  be with Zelena.

This episode had some winky meta moments. Similar the ticking clock that is the portal out of the underworld is an actual clock. And the bails bond lady telling Emma Phoenix isn't hell, which is where she pretty much is now.

This episode was alright. It had some cracking emotional moments but once again Emma didn't detect a lie. Will we see Claw again? Possibly not  but who knows. Glad to know Cruella got a chip of a happy ending. Cruella is going to run the Underworld now, good for her.

Episode 17: Her Handsome Hero

Emilie de Ravin as Belle & Wes Brown as Gaston Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 17 Her Handsome Hero review picture image

Emilie de Ravin as Belle & Wes Brown as Gaston

Not one for mixing references but they could have given Gaston the surname of Leroux but instead they went with LeGume equally in a bean. Is Gaston's Kingdom in bean trading? Or they COULD accept fabricated it Avenant from the 40's version every bit it was proper noun originally considered for Gaston.

This is a Belle heavy episode and she puts her human foot down on Rumple using Dark Magic. Hades enlists the help of Gaston to get his revenge on Rumple for his expiry. Hades does this since he knows Belle will insist that Rumple non hurt Gaston. Hades too makes Belle a deal that if Gaston or Rumple knock the other into the River of Lost Souls, her baby is prophylactic. Belle tries to save Gaston just ends upwards pushing him into the water to salvage Rumple. Oops and it doesn't free the child from the contract.

The reason for this is supposedly souls make Hades more powerful and he doesn't like the hope going effectually town as flowers are starting to grow. Flowers growing from hope is super sappy. Hades, you seem like a god of moderate intelligence, why non just allow Hook and everyone become and count your loses? Sure your downwardly some souls but there is no promise floating around. Sounds like a win-win. Instead he does more than antagonist stuff and pines for Zelena.

Past plot was Gaston is a jerk who doesn't like ogres merely does like Belle. Gaston is a nicer rendition of his Disney-self. Was information technology just me or did the ogre looks similar to Quasimodo? Especially in the opening sequence. Oddly Her Handsome Hero sounds like Star Wars. As it's a story most compassion and forgiveness, though lots of stories are most that. And LeFou got a name drop, which is more than than Olaf got in season four.

B plot is uncomplicated. Emma has a scary dream and it turns out to be Ruby/Red.

This episode was alright. Non a huge fan of Belle and Rumple anymore. Rumple did brand a point about dark and light being a point of view. Every bit Belle was ok with stealing property to aid someone even though that didn't happen.

Episode eighteen: Ruby Slippers

Meghan Ory as Red/Ruby & Teri Reeves as Dorothy Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 18Ruby Slippers review picture image

Meghan Ory as Red/Ruby & Teri Reeves every bit Dorothy

Is some ways this is a filler episode as it takes focus off the Hades' plot, which is fine, but information technology does somethings to move things a footling fleck. The theme of this episode it to accept the run a risk on dearest. Zelena does information technology with Hades and Ruby does it will Dorothy.

Ruby and Mulan'southward quest leads them to OZ to find Ruby's pack. They get at that place just every bit Zelena returns and they encounter up with Dorothy as Zelena dog-naps Toto in exchange for the slippers. Other than hating Zelena, there was no point in Dorothy keeping the shoes. The crew'south plan is to put Zelena to sleep with the poppy sleeping potion. Dorothy and Ruby bond while getting the poppies and Ruby crushes difficult on Dorothy. After the potion is fabricated Dorothy goes off on her own and Zelena puts her in a sleeping curse and takes the slippers. As Dorothy just has the honey of OZ she doesn't take true love.

Carmine follows Zelena to UnderBrooke and hijinx ensue. Mainly they desire to get Aunty Em to blow a kiss into a bottle but Hades liquidates Aunt Em to make Zelena happy. While that is happening the Haunting booth is removed and Snow begs David to leave with Reddish with the slippers that Zelena did give back. Snowfall can't get out because her name is on the headstone Simply Hook crossed her proper noun off and so David stays for her. Hades enchanted his Claw so he could engrave names on the stones. Then Snowfall leaves with Cerise. Ruby kisses Dorothy and she wakes up and Snow goes back to Neal. Also Belle figures she doesn't have nine month to save her kid so she puts herself under a sleeping curse, that Zelena gave her. Non sure if that was a great plan.

Let's merely unpack Belle's plan. The Sleeping expletive on her was practical matter by the evidence as Belle's actress was meaning hence the big red coat she wears. You tin see her belly sometimes. So this was merely a necessity. If you look at in the context of the show, sleeping curses do cease aging just does that use to an embryo? Shrugs. Doesn't seem like a great plan only not sure how much Hades REALLY cares virtually Belle and Rumple's child, he just likes the leverage and deals.

And then there is the crux of this episode Mulan is all still lone. Ruby and Dorothy are true loves because I approximate they both felt like outsiders and liked dogs. Not a bad first to things. I promise Mulan volition finds someone too. She was cute with Blood-red simply I guess they were just friends on a mission to find Ruddy a place in the world, and she did. To be fair, I don't know what's up with Dorothy. I don't mean her graphic symbol but her costume. Can't quite put my finger on it just it looks like something out of steampunk. With two patterns going on. Warrior grab with a gingham brim? NOT sure hot to experience nigh that one other than confused. The pairing on Ruby and Dorothy was ok but it was contained to i episode so while there is an attachment to Ruby-red and Mulan, there isn't one to Dorothy as show depicts her.

Some other curiosity in this episode is the guy removing the Haunting Booth is named Claude. I do experience like I'm being mocked here. Beginning the lady at the dinner, and then the ogre now a random dude named "Claude."

This episode was fine. Ruby and Dorothy got their happy endings while the others are in Hell. Even so peachy not amazing simply it was ok episode.
